About this dive site
This dive site presents a fascinating shipwreck, an old fishing vessel known as 'El Pesquero,' located off the coast of Lanzarote. The boat was intentionally sunk after a disagreement with Morocco regarding fishing rights in the Canarian-Saharan bank. It wasn't intended to reach its full depth, but due to a malfunction during the sinking process, it ended up resting near the seabed at approximately 32 meters. The vessel measures about 35 meters long and is remarkably well-preserved. The dive begins by descending along the anchor chain towards the ship’s impressive propeller, which sits at the maximum depth of the site. As you continue past the stern, you'll discover a small cavity sheltering large Sargassum seaweed – be prepared for them to move as you approach. Exploring the entire hull is possible, leading to the hold and then back up towards the bridge where remnants of the boat’s name can still be seen. This area offers excellent visibility, and divers frequently encounter pelagic species; keep an eye out for marine life. Currents are generally mild, though a strong current could affect navigation. It's a rewarding dive for those seeking to explore a historic wreck in a relatively straightforward setting.
