This dive site, Ayara Bay, is found approximately 20 minutes by boat south of Kamala beach. It features an interesting rocky wall that descends underwater to about 20 meters, though the maximum dive depth for this site is 14 meters. Ideal for a drift dive, especially when timed between high and low tides, the site offers a dynamic underwater experience as divers explore the wall and its various crevices.
The rocky wall is adorned with abundant vegetation and is a haven for macro enthusiasts, boasting a rich variety of small critters hidden within its cracks and contours. Moving towards the sandy bottom, divers can expect to encounter larger marine life such as groupers, stingrays, and flounders, adding to the site's biodiversity.
The best time to visit Ayara Bay for a drift dive is between high and low tide, taking advantage of the natural currents. Its shallow depths and varied marine life make it suitable for both scuba divers and freedivers, with excellent opportunities for macro photography along the wall and observing larger bottom dwellers on the sand. Given its proximity to Kamala, it's a convenient and rewarding excursion for those based in Phuket.
