This dive site, Hin Ngam, is situated on the southeast coast of Koh Tao, nestled near the popular Aow Leuk area. It is characterized by its sheltered conditions and a vibrant fringing reef that encircles the bay. With a maximum depth of 11 meters and a sandy bottom, it serves as an excellent location for beginner and student divers to gain experience in a safe and calm environment.
The reef boasts a healthy variety of corals, including impressive formations of staghorn, brain, and large star corals, providing a rich habitat. Divers can expect to encounter diverse small marine life such as colorful Christmas tree worms, inquisitive blennies, and interesting bulldozer shrimps. Yellowfin goatfish are also commonly observed patrolling the sandy areas.
Hin Ngam is best visited during Koh Tao's dry season, typically from March to May and September to November, when conditions are generally calm with excellent visibility. Its shallow, protected waters make it particularly suitable for snorkelers and freedivers looking to explore the reef without strong currents. The site's gentle environment allows for relaxed exploration and ideal conditions for underwater macro photography.
