This dive site, Hin Wong Pinnacle, is situated on the east side of Koh Tao, off the coast of Hinwon Bay in Thailand. It features a main rock structure that, while not exceptionally large, is part of a wider dive area adorned with scattered rocks. Divers typically navigate around the pinnacle, exploring its overhangs and crevices, which offer interesting geological features and shelter.
The site is home to a diverse array of marine animals. Offshore, divers can often spot larger pelagic species such as big horse mackerel, bluefin tuna, and hornets. Closer to the main rock and in the sandy areas, the crevices reveal macroscopic life including various species of shrimp and what are likely crocodile fish.
Hin Wong Pinnacle is recommended for intermediate and advanced divers primarily due to the relatively strong and variable currents that are common on many days. While no specific seasonal highlights are provided, typical Koh Tao diving conditions generally offer good visibility. Divers should be prepared for changing current conditions and adhere to appropriate safety protocols, making it suitable for experienced freedivers and snorkelers who are comfortable with currents.
