This dive site, Japanese Gardens, is nestled on the picturesque east side of Koh Nanguan, adjacent to the renowned diving hub of Koh Tao. It is celebrated as a protected, exceptionally calm, and straightforward dive site, making it an ideal location for beginner divers and training. The underwater terrain gracefully descends from a sandy slope, evolving into an engaging wall dive as one progresses north along the island, showcasing its diverse topography.
The marine environment here is vibrant, characterized by extensive hard and soft coral gardens that thrive in the clear, shallow waters. These coral formations provide a habitat for an abundance of reef fish, creating a lively ecosystem. Divers frequently encounter a variety of tropical fish, and on occasion, sightings include the elegant blue spot ribbon tail ray and the distinctive banded sea krait.
Japanese Gardens is suitable for diving throughout the year, benefiting from its sheltered position. While the general best time for diving in Koh Tao is from March to October, its calm conditions ensure pleasant dives almost anytime. Its shallow depths and serene environment make it an excellent choice for snorkelers and freedivers, in addition to scuba divers seeking a relaxing and visually rich underwater experience.
