This dive site, Koh San Chalarm (เกาะสันฉลาม), consists of the most southern rocks in the Samesarn area of Thailand. Located approximately 30 minutes by dive boat from Chuang Island, it is famously known as a practice target for the Thai navy. Divers can navigate rocky reefs, discovering unique underwater artifacts such as bullets and even missiles, remnants of its military past, though generally considered safe.
The marine life here is diverse and vibrant, offering encounters with barracudas and schooling fishes, alongside smaller inhabitants like razor fish, scorpionfish, butterfly fish, and various nudibranchs. The site also features healthy hard coral formations, providing shelter and feeding grounds for a wide array of macros and other reef species.
The best time to visit Koh San Chalarm typically aligns with Thailand's general dive season (roughly November to April), offering the best visibility and calmest conditions. Divers will enjoy exploring the fascinating blend of natural coral landscapes and unusual historical artifacts. With an average depth of 9 meters and a maximum of 18 meters, it is also highly suitable for freedivers and offers excellent opportunities for macro photography due to its rich small-stuff diversity.
