This dive site, Mao Bay, offers explorations both to the south and north. Towards the north, divers can discover an artificial reef situated at a depth of 15 meters, providing a focal point for marine life. The area is also distinctly characterized by numerous large boulders that form interesting underwater topography. Unfortunately, the bay is known to accumulate a significant amount of empty bottles, posing an environmental challenge.
The marine ecosystem within Mao Bay hosts a variety of species, including the distinctive porcupine fish, various pipefish, and numerous large Titan triggerfish. While not known for large pelagic encounters, the site offers good opportunities to observe these specific reef inhabitants.
The best time to visit Mao Bay for diving is typically during Thailand's dry season, from November to April, when calm conditions and good visibility are most common. Divers are strongly encouraged to bring a rubbish bag to help clean up the discarded bottles, contributing to the preservation of this site. Its shallow average depth and interesting features also make it suitable for both freedivers and snorkelers.
