This dive site, known as Monuments or Zodiak, is a distinctive location within Hideaway Bay of the Similan Islands. It's characterized by its shallow, sandy bottom adorned with unique underwater statues, including Thai Zodiac figures and poignant tsunami memorials. Navigation is generally easy across the open sandy areas, making it a relaxed and intriguing site to explore, particularly popular for night dives.
The marine life at Monuments is remarkably diverse, especially for macro enthusiasts. Divers can look forward to encountering an array of fascinating small creatures such as ghost pipefish, various species of shrimp, octopus, crabs, and numerous nudibranchs. While the emphasis is on macro, larger inhabitants like napoleon wrasse and reef sharks are also occasionally sighted, complementing the scattered hard and soft corals that add texture and color to the sandy environment.
Monuments is highly recommended for night dives, when many of its resident macro creatures are more active and visible. With a maximum depth of 20 meters and an average depth of around 10 meters, it is perfectly suited for divers of all skill levels, allowing for extended bottom times. Its calm and shallow nature also makes it an excellent choice for snorkelers and freedivers, especially during the Similan Islands' diving season from October/November to May.
