About this dive site
This dive site features the Carthaginian II, a historic steel-hulled brig that served as a symbol of Lahaina’s whaling industry. Built in 1920 and brought to Maui in 1973, this square-rigged tall ship was initially a whaling museum until 2005. It was subsequently sunk intentionally to create an artificial reef and now offers a fascinating diving experience. The wreck rests on a sandy bottom at approximately 95 feet (29.4 meters) below the surface. Divers can expect to encounter white tip reef sharks, moray eels, and scorpionfish while exploring its depths. A unique feature of this dive site is the possibility of spotting an Atlantis submarine, adding an element of surprise to your underwater adventure.
