This dive site, Farnsworth Banks, is a dramatic location in Southern California's open ocean, known for its challenging conditions and rewarding encounters. The dive begins at 20 meters (65 feet), and due to the exposed location, currents and weather can be unpredictable. Experienced divers are recommended for this adventure.
Farnsworth Banks offers the opportunity to witness a remarkable array of marine life. Expect to observe electric rays gliding through the water, schools of barracuda patrolling their territory, and giant black sea bass lurking amongst the formations. A truly special aspect of this site is its abundance of rare California hydrocoral – both the pink and purple varieties – creating an underwater landscape unlike any other.
The average visibility ranges from 18 meters (60 feet) to a maximum of 30 meters (100 feet). The maximum depth reaches more than 46 meters (150 feet). A 7mm wetsuit or dry suit is advisable for comfortable diving.
