This dive site features the USS Oriskany, a remarkable artificial reef located 22 miles off the coast of Pensacola, Florida. This Essex-class aircraft carrier, affectionately known as "the Mighty O," served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars before being intentionally sunk in 2006 as part of an artificial reef pilot program. The vessel, measuring 277 meters (911 feet) long, now provides a vibrant habitat for marine life. Recreational divers can explore areas starting at a depth of 25 meters (80 feet), including the tower, officers’ quarters, and bridge. However, deeper sections below the flight deck require advanced or technical diving certifications due to their considerable depth of 67 meters (220 feet). The site draws underwater photographers and divers seeking unique experiences amongst the wreck's structure. Visibility is variable but generally good.
