This dive site, known as Find Wally, is a unique muck dive situated within Porto Novo Harbor in Cabo Verde. Accessible as an easy shore dive, it's particularly renowned for its elusive macro life, challenging divers to find creatures like frogfish amidst discarded items such as plastic bottles and fishing lines. There's no specific historical narrative for the site, but its name aptly describes the quest-like nature of diving here, where patience is rewarded with incredible sightings.
The site is teeming with fascinating small marine life. Common sightings include various species of nudibranchs, masterfully camouflaged frogfish, scorpionfish, moray eels, lobsters, and fireworms. Rays and octopus are also regular inhabitants, adding to the diversity. Occasionally, divers might be incredibly lucky to encounter whale sharks, although this is a rare occurrence.
While accessible during the day, the 'Find Wally' site truly comes alive after sunset, making night dives the prime time to spot the more elusive creatures which are almost impossible to find during the day. The shallow average depth of 3 meters and a maximum of 7 meters makes it ideal for beginners and long bottom times. For macro photographers, this site offers unparalleled opportunities, especially for nocturnal subjects. Freedivers and snorkelers can also enjoy the shallow depths, although the primary appeal is the challenge of finding hidden macro life rather than expansive reefs.
