About this dive site
Black Rock Drop-Off offers a unique diving experience characterized by its dramatic topography and diverse marine life. The site’s name originates from a substantial black rock offshore, historically used for navigation. A steep ridge separates the deep blue waters from a vast expanse of sand; in one area, this ridge abruptly descends into a winding channel, creating an intriguing underwater landscape. This channel leads to a captivating overhang adorned with sponges and vibrant corals. Divers can explore valleys, headlands, and platforms along this wall, presenting a challenging yet rewarding route. Keep an eye out for the 'Bash Brothers,' three male Caribbean Reef Sharks known for their playful displays – observe them from a distance as chasing them will likely send them away. You might also encounter Green Moray eels hidden in shadowy crevices; their toothy appearance is simply part of their breathing mechanism, not aggression. The site’s natural formations and resident sharks make it a memorable destination for experienced divers.
