About this dive site

This dive site, Marsa Shoni Bay, also known as Shoni Bay, offers an easily accessible entry point via a sandy slope, making it beginner-friendly. The main reef extends north and south, providing ample exploration opportunities. Divers can easily navigate the shallow, sandy entrance before reaching the reef itself, where they'll encounter a stunning array of colorful hard and soft corals. The coral formations are particularly impressive on the southern side, approximately 80 meters from the main reef, where large coral blocks create a vibrant underwater landscape.

Marine life abounds in Marsa Shoni Bay. Divers and snorkelers can expect to encounter a variety of fish species including white tip reef sharks, eagle rays, small barracudas, squid, scorpionfish, and crocodilefish. The rich coral gardens also support a wide array of smaller invertebrates and colorful reef fish, offering excellent opportunities for macro photography.

The best time to visit Marsa Shoni Bay is during the warmer months (April to October), when the water temperatures are most comfortable and the visibility is typically high. During these months, you are most likely to encounter the larger marine animals such as the whitetip reef sharks and eagle rays. Strong winds can sometimes limit visibility, so it's always best to check the conditions beforehand. Marsa Shoni Bay is suitable for both scuba diving and snorkeling, and the calm conditions make it a perfect location for freediving, as long as you remain within the shallower depths and are aware of your limits.
