About this dive site

The Avapeihi Pass, located in Huahine within the Society Archipelago, is considered a premier diving destination and a highlight of the region. Its reputation stems from the remarkable concentration and diversity of marine life found at the exit of the lagoon. The strong currents and varying visibility ensure that no two dives are the same, offering an infinitely variable and exciting exploration with new surprises on each visit.

This dive site is a prime location for encountering a wide variety of large, pelagic animals. Divers can expect to see large numbers of sharks, including grey, white-tip, and black-tip varieties, as well as mesmerizing flights of leopard rays. The pass is also home to massive schools of barracudas, jacks, perch, and snappers, along with other impressive species like dogtooth tuna and bonito. These conditions, however, can make the dive challenging and potentially unsuitable for beginners.

Beyond the impressive large animals, Avapeihi Pass also hosts a rich collection of smaller marine life. The site is home to various species such as moray eels, the camouflaged leaf fish, scorpion fish, and the ever-popular clownfish. This incredible mix of both large and small creatures makes the Avapeihi Pass not just a must-see spot, but one of the most beautiful and biodiverse dives in the entire Society Archipelago.
