About this dive site

This dive site is the submerged port of Caesarea, an ancient Roman harbor now teeming with archaeological remains and marine life. Navigating underwater is relatively straightforward due to the shallow depths and generally flat seabed. The site’s historical significance adds a layer of intrigue, as divers explore the remnants of a bustling ancient port, including the discovery of thousands of ancient gold coins in 2015. The underwater landscape offers a unique blend of history and nature.

The marine life is diverse and abundant, making it a delight for underwater photographers. You can observe typical Mediterranean fish and various invertebrates including colourful nudibranchs, octopuses, squids, crabs, and small rays. The remains of the port itself provide shelter and habitat for these creatures.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months, from May to October, when the water is calmer, and visibility is at its best. For freedivers, the shallow depths and generally calm conditions make it an ideal location. Divers should be mindful of potential boat traffic and any potential hazards associated with ancient ruins. Appropriate buoyancy control is essential to avoid damaging the archaeological remains.
