About this dive site
This dive site is located in Altare Lake, Italy, a popular bathing lake known for its good underwater visibility even during busy periods. The lake bed is composed of gravel, providing a relatively clear and easy-to-navigate environment for divers of all skill levels. While there may be other divers present, especially on weekends, the lake's size allows for a reasonably comfortable dive experience.
The diverse fish population includes carp, zander, barbel, pike, catfish, sturgeon, tench, char, Danube salmon, trout, perch, bream, and Aesc. While not abundant in numbers, the variety offers a good opportunity for observing freshwater species. There is also the potential to discover other less common lake inhabitants depending on the season and chosen dive area. Macro photography opportunities may be found amongst the lakebed gravel and amongst the aquatic plants.
The best time to visit is during the warmer months (spring through autumn) when visibility tends to be at its peak and water temperatures are more comfortable. Weekday dives offer fewer crowds and a more peaceful underwater experience. Divers should be mindful of other lake users, particularly during the summer months. For freediving, shallower areas may be suitable, but proper planning and knowledge of freediving safety practices are vital. Always dive within your limits and never exceed your training and experience.
