About this dive site

This dive site, Focacciola/Gemini Rock, is a saddle-shaped shoal off the Gemini Islands in Italy. The dive involves exploring a small grotto at 8 meters and a canyon ranging from 10 to 12 meters deep. Divers can comfortably circle the entire site in approximately 40 minutes, making it a manageable dive for intermediate divers. Navigating the site is straightforward, following the natural contours of the saddle and exploring the grotto and canyon at your leisure.

The canyon is particularly rich in marine life. Yellow cluster anemones carpet the canyon walls, providing a vibrant backdrop for the diverse fauna. Divers can expect to see barracudas, a variety of snails, eagle rays, moray eels, conger eels, and octopods. The shallower areas may also offer sightings of smaller fish and invertebrates, making this site appealing for both macro and wide-angle photography.

The best time to visit is likely during the warmer months (June-September) when water visibility is generally better and the sea is calmer. However, even outside these months, the site offers interesting features and marine life. Divers should be mindful of potential moderate currents, especially in the canyon area. Freediving is suitable in the shallower areas, but care should be taken to avoid pushing oneself beyond one's limits. Visibility may vary depending on weather conditions.
