This dive site, La Palombara, is located south of Otranto harbor, a tranquil area known for its nesting pigeons and the intriguing remains of ancient amphorae, remnants of past shipwrecks. The seabed is likely a mix of sand and rock formations, with the amphorae scattered across the site, providing a captivating historical aspect to the dive. The site's history is intertwined with maritime trade routes, offering a glimpse into the rich past of the region.

The marine life at La Palombara is diverse, attracting various species of fish. Redfish, mullet, and bream are common residents, creating lively underwater scenes. The presence of tuna, particularly during the autumn months, significantly elevates the dive experience, with these large pelagic fish adding a touch of excitement. Smaller schooling amberjack also contribute to the vibrant underwater ecosystem. Depending on the season, you could see other species.

The best time to visit La Palombara is during the autumn months (September-November) for the opportunity to encounter large tuna, however, the site is diveable throughout the year. Visibility is generally good, with the clear waters of the Adriatic Sea offering excellent conditions for underwater photography and observation.
