About this dive site

This dive site, Nagannu North, is a popular drop-off point located north of Nagannu Island in the Chibishi Islands, approximately 30 minutes by boat from Naha. Divers navigate along the impressive wall of the drop-off, exploring the vibrant reef on one side and the open ocean on the other. The site offers a dynamic underwater topography, providing excellent opportunities for both wall diving and reef exploration. The marine life at Nagannu North is exceptionally diverse, ranging from colorful reef fish like Anthias (キンギョハナダイ), Fairy Basslets (ハナゴイ), Clownfish (クマノミ), Butterflyfish (チョウチョウウオ), and Yellow-tail Damselfish (キホシスズメダイ) along the reef. Offshore, divers can encounter schools of pelagic fish such as Fusiliers (グルクン) and Double-lined Fusiliers (ウメイロモドキ), alongside larger species including Silky Sharks (カマストガリザメ), Whitetip Reef Sharks (ネムリブカ), Green Sea Turtles (アオウミガメ), Spotted Eagle Rays (マダラトビエイ), and other rays (マダラエイ). Other notable residents include Blacktip Groupers (アカハタ), Titan Triggerfish (ゴマモンガラ), Parrotfish (ナンヨウブダイ), and Banded Sea Snakes (シマウミヘビ). Nagannu North is an excellent year-round dive site, though conditions may vary seasonally. The clear waters and rich marine biodiversity make it a highlight for both scuba divers and freedivers, with the shallow reef top being suitable for snorkeling. Divers should be prepared for potential moderate currents, especially along the drop-off, which often attract the larger pelagic species. Checking local conditions for the best experience is always advisable.
