About this dive site
This dive site presents the wreck of the CS Levant II, a cable-laying vessel built in 1904. Originally operated by the Easter Telegraph Company, she served vital communication routes between Malta, Sicily, Libya and Alexandria for nearly half a century before being deemed too damaged to be salvaged. After being towed towards the Grand Harbour spoil ground, the vessel sank approximately 1.5 kilometers off Valletta, now resting at a depth of around 59 meters. The Levant II was rediscovered in 1999 and its identity confirmed through an internet photograph, revealing her original name – Brown and Co. – and dating back to 1911. The wreck is remarkably well-preserved, measuring 42 meters in length. Accessing the site requires advanced diving skills due to strong currents associated with the Grand Harbour Port traffic. The average depth is 55 meters, but it can reach 59 meters at certain points. Shore access is limited to boat only. This wreck offers a fascinating glimpse into maritime history and technical diving challenges.
