About this dive site
This dive site is the MV Imperial Eagle, a 45-meter-long former ferry scuttled in 1999 to create an artificial reef. The wreck lies at depths between 25 and 42 meters, offering divers the opportunity to penetrate its interior, exploring various rooms and corridors. Navigation involves careful attention to depth and orientation within the wreck, particularly in lower visibility conditions. Remember to maintain buoyancy control and be aware of potential entanglement hazards within the wreck structure.
The marine life surrounding the wreck is typical of the Mediterranean Sea. You can expect to see various fish species such as groupers, snappers, and wrasses, along with diverse invertebrates and smaller creatures inhabiting the wreck and surrounding seabed. The wreck itself provides a habitat for many organisms, including sponges, corals, and anemones, which attract a variety of fish life.
The best time to visit is during the warmer months (May to October), when the sea is calmest and visibility is generally better. Water temperature in Malta can be cool even in summer, so a suitable wetsuit or drysuit is recommended. Experienced divers are advised for this wreck penetration, good buoyancy skills are essential. Always remember to follow safe diving practices and dive with a buddy.
