About this dive site
This dive site, Double Arches, is located in the north of Gozo, Malta, and features two impressive arches stacked vertically at depths ranging from 20 to 36 meters. It's a popular dive site accessible both by boat and from the shore, though a boat is often preferred for easier access. Navigating the site involves descending to the shallower arch and then exploring downwards to the deeper arch, carefully navigating the archways and paying attention to depth and potential currents. The history of the site is intertwined with the geological formation of Gozo's coastline, sculpted over millennia by erosion.
Marine life is abundant at Double Arches. Divers can expect to encounter schools of barracuda, amberjacks, sea breams, and damselfish, among other fish species. The rocky structure also supports a variety of invertebrates and smaller marine life. The arches themselves provide interesting habitats and shelter for various species.
The best time to visit Double Arches is during the warmer months (May to October) when the water is warmer, visibility is generally better, and currents are less intense. However, even during these months, currents can still be moderate, so it's essential for divers to check the conditions before entering the water. Experienced divers will find this a challenging but highly rewarding dive, while inexperienced divers should opt for a different, shallower site in the area.
