This dive site presents a unique opportunity to explore the HMS Maori, a World War II British destroyer that offers an accessible wreck diving experience. Located in St. Elmo Bay near Valletta, Malta, this wreck is easily reachable from shore, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced freedivers and scuba divers. The ship was raised in 1945 and scuttled to its present position, lying on a sandy bottom at a maximum depth of 16 meters. HMS Maori, measuring approximately 42 meters in length and somewhat broken, provides an immersive historical diving experience. It's a significant wreck due to its wartime history – the destroyer sank in Grand Harbour, Valletta, after being attacked by German air raids in February 1942. The site is described as offering a ‘unique diving experience surrounded by Culture and History’.
