About this dive site

This dive site presents the Schnellboot S-31 wreck, a poignant reminder of World War II. The vessel sank in 1942 during an incident involving a loose mine in Grand Harbour, Valletta, Malta. Tragically, thirteen crew members perished while thirteen were rescued, marking it as a war grave. The wreck lies at approximately 70 meters depth in an upright position on the sandy/silty seabed. This is a challenging dive suitable for technical divers. The boat, constructed of aluminum frame covered with mahogany planking, has suffered significant decay, leaving only the metal structure intact. Divers can explore the vessel’s features including three engines, triple propellers and rudders at the stern, twin torpedo-tubes at the bow with remaining torpedoes, and anti-aircraft machine guns still in place. The wreck is approximately 33 meters long and 5 meters wide. Access to the site is by boat only.
