About this dive site

This dive site presents the SS Margit, a fascinating wreck located in Kalkara Creek near Valletta, Malta. The ship, a Panamanian steam passenger vessel built in 1942 and originally known as MV Odile, was sunk during an air raid on April 19th, 1941, east of Grand Harbour. The SS Margit is now a considerably broken wreck, approximately 100 meters long, with its funnel and two masts having been removed by explosives. The dive takes place in relatively shallow waters, averaging around 16 meters but potentially reaching 24 meters at its deepest point. Due to the harbor's high level of maritime traffic, visibility can be limited. The site is classified as an advanced dive due to the depth and potential challenges associated with navigating the wreck. Shore access is considered easy, making it a convenient location for divers. The wreck sits on a silty bottom.
