About this dive site

This dive site is located at the Cow and Calf reefs, a distinctive pair of offshore formations known for their resemblance to a whale cow and calf. These twin reefs approach the surface during low tide, creating an impressive visual spectacle. The location offers a unique diving experience due to the varying depths and topography. Maximum depth on the sand floor reaches approximately 13 meters. The area is characterized by rugged sandstone and quartzite formations, with a complex seabed including ridges, boulders, pebbles, and crevices. The inner reef extends about 33 meters from shore, measuring around 35 meters in length, while the outer reef stretches roughly 45 meters offshore and spans approximately 50 meters. The seafloor slopes gradually to sand at 12 meters, featuring a narrow band of pebbles and small boulders that tapers south-westward. The tops of the ridges are covered with red bait, while higher up there are Multicolour sea fans and gorgonian sea fans (Eunicella spp) attached to the rocks. A diverse array of sessile animals encrusts the rocks among these zones, contributing to a rich benthic environment. This site is particularly well-suited for underwater photography due to its invertebrate inhabitants. The gap between the reef and the shore is approximately 5 to 8 meters deep.
