About this dive site

This dive site is named for a prominent rocky pinnacle just offshore, visible at most tides. The maximum depth reaches 14 meters, extending from approximately 12 meters near the gravel edge to the surface along the shoreline. The area boasts diverse marine life zones based on depth and substrate. Shallow waters (around 4-5 meters) are dominated by red-bait algae, large sea squirts, and a variety of invertebrates finding shelter amongst it. Steeper reef sections feature false corals and sea fans, while deeper areas support sponges. Rounded boulders are often encrusted with sponges, hydroids, bryozoans, and sea urchins, with seaweed prevalent in shallower zones. A notable feature is the abundance of nudibranchs observed regularly. Spider crabs can be found on sea fans towards the west of the cove, close to Sponge Rock. The pinnacle itself has sheer north-east and south faces that taper down gradually seaward. This site offers a fascinating exploration of coastal reef ecosystems.
