About this dive site

This dive site is known as 'Crosses,' named for a memorial cross erected in remembrance of J.F. Marais, Rector of Paul Roos Gymnasium, who tragically drowned in the vicinity. Located 18 kilometers south of Gordon’s Bay, at the tip of a headland just north of Rooi-Els beach, it offers an interesting dive experience. The maximum depth reaches approximately 22 meters on the sandy seabed. Expect to encounter dense kelp forests along the shore and heavy red-bait in shallower areas. Galjoen fish are commonly found over the high reef, alongside a variety of invertebrates. Occasionally, seals may be spotted during your dive. The sandstone ridges that run parallel to the shoreline feature transverse gullies, sometimes with pebble or sand bottoms, providing varied underwater terrain. Photography is generally good at this location. This site presents a mix of features, making it suitable for divers looking for a moderately challenging but rewarding experience.
