About this dive site

This dive site is known as Rambler Rock, marked on SA Navy charts. It encompasses several distinct areas, each offering unique diving experiences. The primary feature is a large North-west Pinnacle, a substantial boulder formation approximately 25 meters in diameter at the top, rising to around 11 meters depth. Surrounding this main pinnacle are scattered smaller boulders and outcrops stretching over 75 meters East to West and 35 meters North to South, all situated on coarse sand at just over 24 meters. The area also includes a partly mapped section of reef between the North-west Pinnacle and the North-east reefs, reaching a shallowest depth of about 12 meters with edges rising up to 19 meters in places. Further north are the North-east Reefs – an extensive, moderately low profile reef with areas of higher boulder profiles, largely below 21 meters, featuring a big flat-topped pinnacle at approximately 22 meters with a large boulder perched on top and reaching 14 meters. The Southern Pinnacles offer an extensive granite reef with a main pinnacle rising to about 8 meters in the northwest and several areas around 18 meters depth. This site is characterized by abundant sea fans, soft corals, and sea cucumbers. Visibility can be excellent, particularly in vertical and overhanging areas, but generally best when macro equipment is used. Hotlips Pinnacle, named after a spider crab species, is a flat-topped granite outcrop rising to 18 meters on sand, boasting large numbers of sea fans. The dive site offers varied topography including gullies, crevices, overhangs, and holes. Marine life includes kelp, sea urchins, Red-bait ascidians, feather stars, sand stars, brittle stars, sand slugs, burrowing anemones, purple sea pens, and numerous invertebrates.
