About this dive site
This dive site, known as Whirlpool Cove, is located in a turbulent gap between rocks and the south end of the cove. The area produces powerful vortices due to long period swells, leading to fluctuating water levels – sometimes rising and falling by over two meters within seconds. The cove's name reflects these dramatic whirlpool formations. The seabed features gradual slopes composed of parallel sandstone ridges and gullies, characterized by a consistent dip and strike. The rock is primarily pale grey-brown sandstone with varying pink and brown stains, including an area of darker staining and altered texture suggesting increased hardness. The underwater topography isn't as visually striking as the surface suggests, but further exploration may reveal hidden features. Visibility is generally good, though not exceptional. Marine life is present, though less abundant and diverse compared to Percy’s site. Maximum depth offshore reaches approximately 50 meters, with shallower areas around 24 meters.
