This dive site, Escull del Gobernador, is a rocky islet located outside Es Talaier, Menorca. Divers can explore the area around the islet, which is famously home to the gigantic impact of the bow of the Malakoff, a cargo ship that sank a few hundred meters offshore. This distinct wreck feature provides an interesting focal point and contributes to the varied underwater topography.
The site boasts a rich diversity of marine life, with groupers, moray eels, barracudas, nudibranchs, scorpion fish, octopuses, snappers, amberjacks, rays, torpedoes, and triggerfish commonly observed. While specific coral types aren't mentioned, the rocky environment typically supports various gorgonians, sponges, and anemones typical of the Mediterranean.
The low season is highlighted as the best time to visit for admiring marine life, suggesting calmer conditions and potentially clearer waters. With a maximum depth of 17 meters and an average of 8 meters, it is an excellent site for all levels of divers, including beginners, and is also very suitable for both snorkeling and freediving due to its accessible depths and interesting features near the surface.
