About this dive site

This dive site presents the wreck of the ‘Malakoff’, a French-owned cargo steamer that sank dramatically in January 1929 after striking a submerged rock formation. The wreck rests upright on a sandy seabed at approximately 40 meters (130 feet) depth, with the deck level reaching 32 meters (105 feet). Salvage operations in the 1950s removed much of the ship’s superstructure, leaving a substantial and fascinating artificial reef. This reef now teems with marine life, including numerous barracudas, conger eels, groupers, and various species of triggerfish. Divers often discover remnants like ceramic tiles and porcelain fragments within the wreck's remains. The area is known to attract deep-water pelagic fish due to the reef’s presence.
