About this dive site
This dive site offers a unique experience exploring the wreck of the SS Rangoon, a historic ship that sank near the Galle Fort. The wreck lies approximately 5 meters deep and is surrounded by an incredible spectacle of thousands of jellyfish – Chrysaora – pulsating with shimmering beauty. The diving began as the captain cut the engine and the dive boat glided silently towards the site, miles away from the fort walls. The location itself presents a fascinating historical context, having been submerged for over a century. It’s a captivating sight, particularly at night, when the jellyfish appear to illuminate the wreck. While exploring, remember to maintain a safe depth and be mindful of your breathing—the sheer magnitude of this underwater environment can take your breath away.
