About this dive site
This dive site offers a unique opportunity to explore the wreck of the Riksäpplet, a historically significant warship from Sweden’s era of conflict with Denmark. The wreck lies approximately 15 meters deep off the coast of Öland, near where it was lost in 1676 during a storm following a brief engagement and subsequent disease outbreak that led to its hasty return to Dalarö. The Riksäpplet, considered one of Sweden’s most impressive warships, provided a glimpse of maritime power for many years before its final resting place. For decades, the masts remained visible above the seabed, and the small island where it sank was briefly renamed Äpplet. This location represents a poignant reminder of a tumultuous period in Swedish history. The dive provides a chance to witness a well-preserved wreck from a bygone era. Visibility may vary.
