About this dive site

This dive site presents the wreck of the Swedish coaster Sappemeer, built in 1961 in Defzijl, Netherlands. The vessel sank on November 7, 1969, near Rödkläpparna, east of Biskopsön in Stockholm’s southern archipelago. It was carrying a cargo of 650 tons of limestone. Sappemeer is a two-master coaster with a length of 51.2 meters and a width of 8.44 meters, weighing approximately 491 gross tonnes. The wreck lies in free water and is buoyed for easy access. Visibility typically ranges from 15 to 20 meters, offering excellent views of the 50-meter long vessel. The site features a significant slope but offers accessible penetration through the holds, engine room, and cabins. A bridge on the uppermost level of its three decks allows direct entry into underwater spaces. The maximum depth is 23 meters.
