About this dive site

This dive site, Lo Scoglione, is an emerged rock off the coast of Capraia, Italy, marking the beginning of a dramatic wall that descends into the open sea. The wall forms a beautiful gully extending to depths exceeding 40 meters, although the dive typically stays within the 25-meter limit. The dive usually involves descending along the wall, exploring the gully and observing the pelagic life in the open water beyond. The site's structure, along with the strong currents, creates a dramatic underwater landscape, perfect for divers to experience an incredible underwater environment.

The marine life at Lo Scoglione is diverse. Pelagic fish are frequently seen circling in the open water, while the wall itself may support a variety of smaller fish and invertebrates, though the density of smaller creatures may not be as high as in other areas. Depending on the season, one might encounter larger fish species commonly found in the Mediterranean Sea.

The best time to visit Lo Scoglione is during the summer months (June-September) when the water is warmest and the visibility is at its peak. Stronger currents are more common during this period. Divers should be comfortable with moderate currents, maintaining good buoyancy control, and managing their air consumption efficiently. Freediving is possible, but divers and freedivers should assess current conditions before entry.
