About this dive site

This dive site is Fessej Rock, a prominent pinnacle located 100 meters off the south coast of Gozo, Malta. The rock itself rises 15 meters above the water, but its base sits at a considerable depth of 60 meters. Divers typically explore the upper sections, reaching a maximum depth of 26 meters. Navigation is relatively straightforward, circling the rock to observe its varied topography. There is no particular history associated with the site beyond its natural formation.

The marine life around Fessej Rock is exceptionally diverse. Expect encounters with dusky groupers, barracudas, amberjacks, tube worms, lobsters, octopus, tuna, dentex, and saddled breams. The abundance and variety of fish, coupled with the interesting rock formations, makes this site suitable for both macro and wide-angle photography.

The best time to visit Fessej Rock is during the warmer months (May to October) when visibility is typically at its best and the water is warmer. For freedivers, the upper sections of the rock offer plenty of opportunity for exploration, while scuba divers can explore deeper areas. Always be mindful of the potential for moderate currents. Proper buoyancy control is crucial around the rock formations to avoid damage to the fragile ecosystem.
