About this dive site
Mortar Rock is a delightful shallow dive site located a short boat ride from Nilaveli Beach. Situated just south of a surfacing rock formation on the outskirts of Pigeon Island National Park, it offers accessible diving suitable for divers of all experience levels. The site features plentiful large encrusting corals, flourishing within depths ranging from 5 to 8 meters. Divers can explore meandering coral stacks and smaller reef ecosystems, keeping an eye out for resident octopuses that often inhabit the crevices between the rocks. Due to its gentle currents and diverse benthic flora, this dive site provides a peaceful and rewarding experience. To maximize your enjoyment, we recommend arriving early in the morning as boat traffic tends to be higher due to its popularity with both diving and snorkeling operations.
