About this dive site
This dive site is located beneath Trincomalee harbor, creating an intriguing and somewhat eerie experience. Constructed by Sri Lanka’s navy in 2020, it offers a unique opportunity to explore two sunken gunboats. These wrecks, covered in encrusting corals and algae, feature small peep holes allowing glimpses into their interiors. While not suitable for penetration, they provide a fascinating visual spectacle inhabited by various fish species, including groupers and batfish. Surrounding the wrecks is an underwater museum showcasing military equipment and figures, which has fostered new coral growth and provided habitats for marine life. Be mindful of potential encounters with scorpionfish and stonefish that often utilize these structures as resting places. This dive offers a historical perspective combined with vibrant marine ecosystems. Remember to bring your camera to capture this remarkable location.
